Oxford – ‘The City of Dreaming Spires’ is known the world over for its University and place in history. For over eight hundred years Oxford has been a home to royalty and scholars. It is now a busy, cosmopolitan city with plenty for visitors to see and do with a wealth of historic building, colleges and museums.
The best way to get around is on foot, as all the main attractions are within a compact area. It would take weeks to see all the buildings of note, but a day in Oxford would certainly give you a good flavour of this historic place.
Start with a stroll which includes a visit to at least a couple of the thirty four beautifully maintained colleges, with their immaculate gardens and picturesque courtyards. Then after lunch, a leisurely punt on the river Cherwell is highly recommended.
